When King Edward II is informed that his wife, Queen Isabella, has
defied him and remained in France with their son, he flies into a rage. It is Sir Baldwin de Furnshill and his friend
Bailiff Simon Puttock, who have broken the news to him and are now no longer in the king?s favour. They return to their
homes in Devon, but they find that outlaws hold sway in the land. Sir Robert, a knight from the King?s household, has
turned outlaw from his castle near Crediton. When a pair of clerics are found murdered, Baldwin and Simon are asked to
investigate. But then Simon?s own daughter is threatened by Sir Robert, and all hell is let loose?

 
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Michael Jecks is a best-selling writer of historical novels. The son of an Actuary, and the
youngest of four brothers, he worked in the computer industry before becoming a novelist full time in 1994.     He is
the author of the internationally popular Templar series, perhaps the longest crime series written by a living author.
Unusually, the series looks again at actual events and murders committed about the early fourteenth century, a fabulous
time of treachery, civil war, deceit and corruption. Famine, war and disease led to widespread despair, and yet the
people showed themselves to be resilient. The series is available as ebooks and all paper formats from Harper Collins,
Headline and Simon and Schuster.     His books have won him international acclaim and in 2007 his Death Ship of
Dartmouth was shortlisted for the Harrogate prize for the best crime novel of the year.
A member of the Society of
Authors and Royal Literary Society, Jecks was the Chairman of the Crime Writers' Association in 2004-2005. In 2005 he
became a member of the Detection Club.

Tudor Barnes.   After reading Classics at London University, Michael Tudor Barnes trained at RADA and for five years was
a member of the National Theatre Company. He has also worked with the RSC, has played leading roles both home and abroad
and has over 600 radio broadcasts to his credit. Television work includes The Bill and Softly, Softly; but he is
probably best known to viewers as Willy Roper in EastEnders.
